In SIGNAL, uncertain impressions are recorded, classified and presented as structured information. The project draws on remote-viewing protocols developed within classified US programmes during the Cold War. Twelve participants described coded targets without direct access to them. On blue aluminium plates, the participants’ handwritten notes and drawings are combined with the artist’s annotations, which use terminology from a remote-viewing training manual.

Each plate is paired with a sealed envelope containing information about the target. The targets include existing and lost objects, objects represented only by images, and targets with no corresponding object. Neither the participants nor exhibition visitors can verify the records against the targets.
